Booked as a cheap and functional stop on our way to see the Spice Girls in Cardiff, we found a lot to like about this hotel. It was easy to find just off the motorway. Easy parking (free). We arrived late after a day spent in the Wye Valley and then seeing Aladdin in Newport, and found a very friendly and welcoming receptionist who advised us against returning to Newport for breakfast in Wetherspoon, and instead recommended we go to the Wetherspoon in Chepstow. That turned out to be the perfect advice, as we had a very pleasant morning in Chepstow. We also received a free bottle of water (we could have had a fizzy soft drink) and a Mars bar. A longish walk, with no lift, along creaking stairs and corridor to a proper sized family room. The room was functional and comfortable, though in need of refurbishment and more toilet paper. We overlooked the trees at the back, and the room was very quiet. All in all pretty much in line with other such convenient budget hotels, though the size of the room, and the comfort of the beds, the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, and the quietness of the room pushes this up into good rather than average. With a refurbishment and a little more attention to details, such as repairing the curtains and making sure there's enough toilet paper, this could be an excellent budget choice.
