You feel like you are home, staff was very pleasant and helpfull

I wanted to stay somewhere off the beaten track on my road trip from Bilbao to Gibraltar and choose this hotel. The language barrier was a challenge but in my opinion that made it all the more unique and Google Translate did the rest.
The elderly owners couldn’t do enough for me and made me feel extremely welcome. I went into their restaurant in the evening and I was treated to a fantastic meal, which was very authentic, and the food just kept coming along with a large pitcher of red wine - what’s not to like……
My room was rustic and comfy and I slept like a log, probably thanks in part to the wine. breakfast was continental, which I love anyway and set me up for the rest of my journey.
Whilst this is out of the way and there is a language barrier, I found the atmosphere of the place really good as the bar also served the local villagers.
We did not have breakfast, but dinner the night before was good, the owner and his family were helpful and friendly and although we do not speak Spanish we managed to understand them and they us, a bit of a drive of the highway but worth it, it is not a five star resort but a very nice three star.
I had a very warm welcome, the room was comfortable, had everything I needed, a great view of the countryside and was traditionally furnished. As with the majority of the hotels I stayed in the cafe/bar was used in the morning by the local workforce, grabbing a bite to eat and quick beer before the working days grind. The location is slap bang in the middle of the hills ideal for mountain biking, motorcycling and alike. I make it rule when visiting countries to avoid the usual tourist traps and try to live and eat as the locals do.
