Very cozy, the common room was a great place to relax with a fireplace, books, and comfy couches.
Outstanding place to stay when hiking the Tongariro Alpine Crossing (TAC). The motel was clean and comfortable. Plenty of hot water, comfortable bed. I had a corner room with a kitchenette which was very quiet. The hosts were wonderful and a wealth of information. Very friendly and great to talk with. Dutchy is also a driver that can take you to the TAC. Schedule the drop-off and pick-up with the motel. Reasonable price for transportation and so easy since you simply meet in the parking lot on the morning of your hike. It's a 10-15 walk from the train station to the motel, although Gillian was kind enough to drop me off at the train station the day I checked out. Definitely will stay here again if I return to National Park for some more hiking!
The responsiveness of John and Gillian, the owners, was incredible. Very helpful and reliable.
Super friendly people who run the place! Clean. Comfortable beds. Breakfast available to order. Easy to organize a shuttle from the property for the Crossing.
Staff was very helpful. The Kiwi breakfast was very good.
