The motel is situated close to Turangi and it is a short drive to the local shops including petrol/supermarket/great bakery. We found our room a little dated but that gave it a kind of charm. It was a comfortable break after a long tiring drive. Great for a short stay. I could imagine that if your were a fisherman that this motel would be well placed for your needs. Friendly helpful host. One real plus was that of all the motels that I have stayed in over many years, this is the only one that I can recall as providing a carport which makes a difference on a cold wet day.
I liked everything about Tongariro River Motel. Pip is very engaging and a pleasure to talk to.

DIDN'T HAVE BREAKFAST. EXCELLENT LOCATION, EASY TO FIND AND EASY ACCESS TO RESTAURANTS.
Loved the homely feel and how comfortable our flat was. It was clean and the kitchen was well equipped. Location was good to get into the Turangi city centre and for price we were happy.
The old couple were lovely along with their old dog at reception. Worth the stay.
