This charming guest house provides rooms that offer scenic views of the Guadiana River or of the whitewashed town of Mértola. The Beira Rio has its own boat for tours of the Guadiana River. Kayaks and bicycles are available for rental. All rooms are air conditioned and equipped with a satellite TV for guests’ entertainment. The private bathroom is fitted with a modern shower cabin and toilet. Beira Rio’s public areas have free WiFi. A buffet-style breakfast is served in the cozy dining room with large windows to the river. Alternatively, guests can take the breakfast out to the terrace with excellent river valley views. Beira Rio’s riverfront location makes it perfect base for fishing, boat tours and canoeing. Staff can organize this at an additional charge. Mértola’s hilltop castle is under 10 minutes’ walk away. The Guadiana Valley Natural Park is located on the guest house’s doorstep. Beira Rio Guest house also offers free on-site parking for bicycles and motorcycles.

If you are going to stay at a hotel in Mertola, this is the place to stay. Very nice room, and a good price with a nice view of the river and the castle. Short walk up the hill to the castle or down to the river. The 10 Euro breakfast buffet is definitely worth it. Staff were really nice and very helpful when it came to answering questions. The bar on the patio was an excellent place to unwind with a great view of the river and the castle.
The hotel is walkable to sights (a long walk). The room is nice, modern, and comfortable. Our room had a patio. The hotel patio served drinks and food. The staff were very helpful. Price was reasonable.
The hotel is located right on the river as the name might suggest and we got the sense that it is probably ideal for families in the summer time. There is a pool, outdoor cafe and pop-up food truck. We climbed some stairs to get to the old town and the castle but then realized later on that the easiest route was walking up the road. There’s a cozy lounge on the first floor of the building where we met with our friends in the evening. The rooms were clean but one of us at least found the bed uncomfortable. Mattress springs too close to the surface? And a slightly moldy shower curtain in the otherwise clean bathroom.
Perfect spot overlooking the river with a sweet tiny terrace. Had everything we needed. We had salads at the hotel terrace above our room which made a nice change from all the rich Alentejo food! We also had a look around the museum under the hotel, which was fascinating.
Our hosts were friendly and helpful. The location was great, and the town is pretty.
