Mario at the reception desk was awesome! He was kind and helpful.
Joana at the front desk was very professional and nice. Room was spacious, clean, and well appointed. Bathtub and balcony were unexpected extras. Central location in a surprisingly fun and vibrant town. Value for money was great.
We were surprised by the view of the castle and medieval village. Other reviews are accurate: helpful but not friendly staff, comfortable beds, spacious family room, bathtub. Buffet continental breakfast (bread, pastry, yogurt, fruit, juice, coffee, cold meat and cheese slices) was good.
Regarding other comments about “dated” furnishings, yes they are older but of the solid classic European style. I’d rather have solid than trendy which breaks and chips after a few uses!
We think the hotel was a great choice, the staff were all really nice, the breakfast was better than places we have stayed at with a higher rating and we never heard any noise coming from other rooms. We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone going to Santa Maria or even thinking about going to Espinho.
I stayed here while walking the Camino Portugues as it was full in San Joao de Madeira that night (Easter holidays) and this was a really pleasant surprise.
Room was great, a proper hotel room with everything I needed, plus a big balcony where I got to watch a surprise Easter procession outside. Breakfast was included and had good options. Plus the hotel staff were friendly and helpful. I would happily stay again.
