Age and history but modern function and details. Good location for us. Great restaurant just downstairs.
The full Scottish breakfast was excellent. Our room, although external to the hotel, was very comfortable and warm. The evening meal was also very good, we can recommend the scallops and the venison.
Lovely looking building, very quirky inside. The lady looking after the desk was accommodating, friendly and very helpful, even though experiencing a busy night. The en-suite bathroom was lovely and very well equipped!
This hotel is a little gem! We stayed for one night, the final night of our little week-long tour of Southern Scotland, and it was by far the nicest of all we had stayed in. Such good value for money.
We stayed in the Auchenbrack room (one of the family rooms on the top floor), which was perfect. As with the rest of the hotel the room has some lovely features and is really pleasantly furnished - very much my style of building! My wife particularly loves the bath!
Staff were very welcoming and the food was excellent. We had a lovely meal the night we arrived and breakfast was lovely too. Portions for both adults and children were good.
So pleased we stayed, definitely look at coming again, maybe with friends next time.
The fact we were returning to this hotel for the fourth time and as we left rebooked for October is the clearest indication of our feelings about this hotel. We’ve always loved it. It marks a good stopping point for our journey between Notts and Skye. We love that we feel so immediately at ease and comfortable. The rooms are lovely , the food very good and the staff delightful ( Amy is particular helpful and friendly). We have family in the area and it is a mark of the high esteem that is held in locally that my uncle is having a big birthday lunch there in October. Thornhill itself is delightful and the hotel very centrally situated. Warmly recommended.
