Located in the picturesque Devonshire town of Illfracombe is the Royal Britannia Hotel. Totally refurbished in 2010, the hotel overlooks the harbor and has 2 restaurants and 2 bars, offering cuisine from Northern China, Sunday carvery and bar meals. Former notable guests of the hotel include Lord Admiral Nelson and King Edward VII. Rooms at the Royal Britannia feature TVs and tea/coffee making facilities, while some have sea views and spa baths. The large restaurant has exposed wooden beams and serves English and international cuisine. There is a carvery with a range of meat, and a sea-food menu featuring the fresh catch from Illfracombe harbor. There are two bars, serving a wide range of drinks and light snacks throughout the day. Devonshire cream teas are also available for guests to enjoy. The hotel is surrounded by the harbor stunning countryside walks. The golden, sandy beaches of Woolacommbe are a haven for surfers, and are a 10-minute drive away.

The location is premium, on the harbour where you can enjoy the changes in tide and the night lights. We had a room with a view and it was fab. Large bedrooms and good facilities. Bar staff is efficient and friendly.
I would spend just a slight bit more for the King Four Post bed and the marina view. I had these and I was transfixed by the changing tides and overall great views.
The room was clean and spacious. Beds were super comfy. I slept like a log and we spent the majority of our time on our beds so the fact that we were comfortable was ideal. Breakfast was filling and freshly cooked. My son had the kippers which made a nice change for him as it's not something usually offered on a breakfast menu. I had the full english as I'm a creature of habit, both of which were just what we needed to set us up for the day and very reasonably priced too. We booked in advance which saved us a couple of pounds but would have happily paid the full price. Christmas day lunch in their sister restaurant was amazing and well worth the price. The staff in both sites were amazing, helpful, polite and courteous.
