Great quiet location, easy to find and with views of the bay from our breakfast table. Room was great. Breakfast was perfection. Sunday evening front of house staff and standards. If one had booked into the Brasserie, I guess things would have been fine. We didn’t as on Menu 2 both vegetarian meals included chicory. We thought we’d try the Kitchen Garden but we felt it was not a great ambience for a ‘posh’ evening meal so we sat in an area in between. I had to stop a waiter and ask if we could eat here explaining that we felt rather unsupported. Two pizzas were ordered with a couple of cocktails. However 4 cocktails arrived as one of them was also called margarita. Sorted though. I had to ask for the table to be wiped and also noticed the carpet was in serious need of a hoover. Is this really four star standards I thought? Whilst sitting, we noticed three other couples arrive and also wonder what ‘The Locker’ room was for and all these spare seats and they also visually rejected the Kitchen Garden. Although there were several waiters around, they too had to attract the attention of one, so it was not just a problem we had. What was weird was the breakfast staff were nothing short of perfect. This suggests that the FOH team on the Sunday evening need a little bit of training in terms of making guests feel welcome and supporting them, especially when there are no clear indications as to what each seating section is intended for and how to order any food from those particular locations. I could see Alex Polizzi scouting at this situation for sure!
