Driving across I-40, there are few places to stay between Amarillo and Shamrock. I decided on my most recent trip to leave I-40 to get to Clarendon, where Western Skies is a solid, simple and clean place to stay. The staff are friendly and helpful and the rooms are small but clean and comfortable. There are no frills here, but a very good price. Be aware that the highway in front of the hotel is the main route between Amarillo and Fort Worth. The city does not reduce the speed much through town and the road is busy until late and night and the traffic resumes early in the morning. For someone in my situation, looking just for clean, safe and friendly place to spend a night on a long drive, it's perfect.
