I think 85 building has developed a reputation amongst some local Taiwanese as being a place that can be a bit seedy at times. I can say that it seems to be much better and safer now. The lobby has guards and police officers on duty 24/7 and I never really felt unsafe or uncomfortable at any time. Because of this reputation, the hotels in this building are quite cheap considering the location and the view. We were given a room in the corner of the building, with a view of both the sea and the city. It was truly spectacular. The bed was quite big and the room offered plenty of space for lounging, eating meals, or working on our laptops. The lobby also has some conveniences like a coffee shop and a 7/11. Overall I am very satisfied with the value that we got out of our booking. Some of the building is quite outdated but the rooms themselves are still very nice. Note that they do only accept cash payments, so prepare for that.

Rooms live up to the pictures. The outside does not represent the hotel image, so do not get confused when you approach the building and the ground floor. There’s european sockets as well, which was a huge plus.

This hotel exceeded my expectations and I honestly don't understand the bad reviews. It was super clean and the view was incredible. You can see the sunset from the room with the sea view. The building also feels very safe, with 24/7 security. I would definitely stay here again.
