Charitha and his family were great hosts and extremely attentive to all our needs (ready to go above and beyond).
The food was delicious, the room was large and clean with an air conditioning that worked almost too well, there is a seating area in the garden from which you can hear birds and witness monkeys walking along the electrical wires.
The property is walking distance (30 min) from Owagiriya Natabun Viharaya (Buddhist temple ruins) and as we were on our way Charitha kindly gave us a lift, as well as to another destination later during our stay.
Both the father and mother are absolute sweethearts, and are more than happy to sit down with you for a chat (I had a little well needed Sinhalese crash course).
From what I can see they are building more rooms/bungalows and a restaurant in the back, but as of February 2025 it truly had that quaint local feel I look for when I travel.
We loved the kindness and hospitality!
Charitha and his parents are fantastic, informative and welcoming. Arranged a fantastic tour with a picnic and a guide who knew everything about the region and took great care into making sure we saw a lot of it.
The village is small and everyone is incredibly nice, curious and inviting. All smiles wherever we went.
Charitha's mother is probably the best cook on the entire island. There aren't many restaurant options around so this was such an unexpected pleasure. I'll dream about her lady fingers (okra) for a good long time to come.
The house is spacious and has a nice surrounding garden.
100% recommend.
Charitha organized two boat safari for me at very very short notice. Both were absolutely fantastic (apart from a fellow tourist who would not stop talking, unaware of needing to be quiet when viewing animals and the etiquette of how to behave on a Safari). The boat safari is breathtaking. I saw an elephant crossing from one island to another and a few small herds. Very magical!
The guest house is in a very small village surrounded by jungle. Extremely peaceful and a fabulous place to stay the night. Charitha's family is adorable and so friendly and he will go out of his way to help you in any way he can.
He organized a car to take me to Arugem Bay and even accompanied me.
I did look at other options of where to stay but this was extremely close to the Boat Safari, only a 10 minute ride which he also organized and I'm thrilled that I picked this guest house.
Incredible value for money and a highlight of my trip !
Charitha is a legend. I arrived at 6pm and within 30 minutes had a boat safari tour lined up for 6am in the morning at a much lower price than with an online booking. He then drove me to the National Park office at 6am and drove me back at 8:30am afterwards. Went above and beyond.
Room was comfortable with good AC, adequate breakfast. 5 star hospitality
A very friendly and welcoming family-run guesthouse. We had home-made dinner which was excellent. Our room was very basic, but ok. Our host also helped us organise a safari and taxi ride. Thank you!
