I had to rebook this room several times due to family challenges, and BnA Alter was so kind about it. They were compassionate and amazing when we arrived on the property. Super cool space - the rooms and bar space are so well designed
Location was right in the heart of Kyoto. Room was unique and slept all 4 of our guests easily. Space was clean, front desk provided water daily as there was no service to the room during our three night stay. They had a special for June where each guest could get a free drink at the bar. The drinks were AMAZING and staff and other guests were very friendly to chat with.
The concept was really cool! I appreciated the “living in art” idea. The room I stayed in connected beautifully with the location, The Tale of Genji, and the shifting lighting. It thoughtfully framed sleep as a dreamlike state, which I found both inspiring and meaningful.
That said, as a hotel, it offered just okay comfort. The space was quite small, and I even bumped my toe on the concrete bed frame (concrete relates to the artwork’s concept). Still, the location was fantastic for the price.
BnA Alter Museum has really unique rooms. I had the opportunity to stay at the Galápagos Danchi, which had tatami floors and a homey vibe, plus unique views to the streets of Kyoto. My room also had a pretty good shower, the best in my trip. Another plus is the cafe they have and the bar.
Amazing location, beautiful decor and atmosphere, super friendly and helpful staff, breakfast was amazing (for a weather missing avocado on sourdough), great coffee.
