Offering an beautiful location in the Bavarian Alps, the family-run Zum Franziskaner is just 2.2 mi from the Eibsee Lake. It features free storage space for skis, bicycles and motorbikes. Simply furnished rooms include a work desk, cable TV and a private bathroom. Panoramic views of the mountains are offered in each one. Breakfast is served each morning in the Zum Franziskaner’s country-style breakfast room. The Eibsee Cable Car (2.2 mi) takes you to the top of the Zugspitze, Germany’s highest mountain. There are also a number of scenic hiking routes running directly by the hotel. The Austrian border is just 6.8 mi from the hotel, and it is 1.1 mi to Untergrainau Train Station. Free parking is provided on site.

Our host Christian was an absolute god-send! He was very patient with all of my questions in my slow German, and gave detailed instructions on the local bus schedule, what discounts the Zugpitze Gast-karte included, and where to find open restaurants in the greater Garmisch/Grainau area during the weekend. The continental breakfasts were refreshing, and although there was no Biergarten, there was a vending machine on location full of .5 L bottles of Spaten and Franziskaner (amongst other varieties) for only 2 Euros each. My wife and I were sad to leave, but Christian sent us off with a gift of two pretzels for the road in a small bag. We will definitely book here again!
The staff is friendly and can speak English well. The room is slightly tiny but kept very clean and has a balcony with a nice view. Close to Eibsee. You can reach Aldi and Edeka within 10 minutes by car as well. Very good value for money.
