To my surprise, I slept so well. Being in a former prison, I expected to sleep badly. But I slept like a baby. The bed was so comfortable. Thank you! I was the only guest, and I had the whole "haunted" experience myself. What a stay!
This is really a cool place to have an extraordinary stay during the night!
Staying for one night in prison, with just no comfort at all, it is scary and adventurous at the same time!
If you love to have a special experience, just do it! Very artistic also, how the prison rooms have been renovated.
And also I was stunned by the absolutely functional and clean shower and toilet facilities! Everything is very simple and basic, but even without the comfort of a hotel room, I had a really good night after the long trip with the ferry to LIepaja and definitely woke up rested. I did not expect this at all! Breakfast was also okay and you can eat in the outside in the garden when the weather is good.
I loved how the staff gave history of the prison but their sense of humor helped bring everyone's spirits back up after the grim details of history. The tour was in-depth and informative. The rooms are very nicely decorated and give the feeling of being in a hotel. The museum preserves a lot of the primary sources as best as possible. There is a tour included in the stay so make sure you take it to become more familiar with the extensive history of the location, which eventually became a prison later as regimes changed.
This is an experience. Don't come for a comfy bed or great night of sleep. It's reasonably priced, especially since you get a private, after-hours tour which is normally 8 euro. I was pleasantly surprised by a good hot water shower in the morning. Staff was very friendly. If your expectations are right, this is a great experience.
It's the most unique experience I've with an accomodation. It's certainly not for everyone cause you might stay alone in the whole floor of the prison, but if you're into these kind of experiences then the place is amazing! The place's main function is as a museum, not as a hotel, so you have to be aware that you have to leave your cell before 9:00, before the museum opens, which is completely understandable. It's not adverticed, but I also got a private tour of the prison upon my arrival (around 10:00 pm) and the officer/guide/receptionist was amazing! Needless to say, don't expect comfort, expect an experience.
