What went well? Everything! The location was absolutely brilliant, the room was spotlessly well-appointed, and the staff were lovely. Nearby Sainsbury's and Caffe Nero were go-to spots for fresh food and cappucino. There's also a nice shop and cafe in the crypt (yes, the crypt!) at St. Martin-in-the-Fields Church, just across from Charing Cross tube station. Covent Garden is just a short walk, as are so many other great places to visit. We had dinner at the hotel one night which was quite good. The value was excellent, especially considering what we paid for a Holiday Inn in Hammersmith earlier in the week.

The Strand Palace is located very close to Covent Garden and is a 7 minute walk to Charing Cross Station. There are numerous restaurants within a few minutes walk. Covent Garden is in the middle of everthing in London - couldn't ask for a better location. The room is a little on the small side, but we had a very comfy king-sized bed. Toilette products were nice and it was a good hot shower. Excellent buffet breakfast downstairs. We didn't try the two adjacent bars but they looked very nice. If you opt out of having your bed made and towels changed every day, you get a 7.00GBP credit for each day that can be used in the restaurant or bars. Our prior Booking.com reservation was cancelled on us and we quickly booked the Strand Palace which was an excellent choice.

The entrance, telephone box, the welcome service by the door man, the location, the breakfast was nice
