Highly recommended if you’re visiting Mount Aso and looking for a ryokan-style stay, this place offers a warm welcome and great hospitality from the owner. There are also two cats, and you can take a walk to enjoy the surrounding nature.
Very kind and thoughtful owner, gave us a lot of wonderful recommendations for the area! The two cats were adorable and friendly. I would absolutely stay here again, there were also bikes available to rent and books to read! Room was wonderful and the futons were very comfortable
Our stay at Momiji was great! The old Japanese house was warm and homey and the hosts were kind and welcoming. Two cats were a bonus. Dinner at the Thai restaurant was exceptional and highly recommended! I would be back anytime and ideally would stay for longer!
We liked the little details such as gorgeous private garden to view from restroom followed by hot water tap by the restroom, well arranged and attractive welcoming kitchen, delicious healthy breakfast, attentive kind host, and creative use of old Japanese home. Host Hide gave us excellent local site recommendations including a natural spring nearby.
The owner and his wife are extremely welcoming and friendly and make you feel right at home. He told us he was engineer but as he moved up the ranks into management his missed working with people and decided to open a guest house. You can tell he likes people. There is a well stocked kitchen for preparing you own meals and he also leaves a simple breakfast out for you in the morning. They now only have one cat (Nuan), him and his sibling didn’t get on so he has gone to live with grandma. We went for their Thai restaurant next door for dinner (he wife is Thai) and had a delicious meal. It really was a wonderful experience and the setting is stunning and a great base for hiking, biking, running, eating and onsening
