This is exactly the type of quirky historical hotel I like to stay in. Slanty floors, lots of stairs and fire doors, great view of the street below and best of all a pub! The bathroom was large which was a nice surprise.

Small team of staff who worked hard throughout our stay to ensure we enjoyed ourselves. We thought Tim was particularly good in all aspects. Check-in was easy and our room was comfortable. This is a very old building and everything creeks a little but we slept well after our Lakeland walks. Friends joined us in the restaurant on our first night where we thoroughly enjoyed the food, drink and service.

Great location at the center of town. We had a third floor walk up, so it might not be the best choice for someone with limited mobility; otherwise, it was a great base for a couple day visit.

We come here every year, with the recent reviews we wondered what had happened but we can confirm it's just as great as it's always been! The rooms are large, it's dog friendly, it's clean, the water pressure is fabulous, the beds are comfy! For a short walking break this place is ideal and we will certainly be back again! The staff are lovely also!
